After nearly 15 years with the nearly ageless fourth-generation Corvette, General Motors unveiled the most significantly redesigned iteration of America's sports car since its inception in 1953. The new C5 was stiffer and lighter than the previous generation C4 due to the innovative use of hydroformed frame rails and featured a transaxle that improved not only the weight distribution but also increased interior space. Other new features included a drive-by-wire throttle and a variable effort power steering system, but most notably, the C5 would introduce the world to the now legendary all-aluminum LS V8 engine. Initially available with the 345 horsepower LS1 V8, the C5 quickly gained a reputation as a rugged and reliable performer.
This lot is offered Without Reserve from The Roger Boman Collection, which comprises 27 vehicles ranging from European to American classics. Many examples within the collection feature Mr. Boman’s standard modification “formula,” including but not limited to the addition of disc brakes, air conditioning, modern fuel injection, and many other custom touches seen by countless enthusiasts around the Fresno, California area who shared the late owner’s passion for this unique assortment of automobiles.
