Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Ford’s first true post-war design emerged in July 1948 and was quickly nicknamed the “Shoebox Ford” for its slab-sided pontoon fenders. The new Ford was available with an inline-six or a Flathead V8 engine in a range of body styles, the most expensive of which was a two-door station wagon called the Country Squire – nicknamed the “woodie” for its mahogany plywood side bodywork and upper and lower tailgate. Touted in Ford brochures as the “Double-Duty Dandy,” the Country Squire’s foldable second row and removable third-row seating could transport up to eight passengers, or could form a flat deck creating up to 38.8 square feet of cargo space. This charming 1950s woodie remains instantly recognizable and is sure to garner instant admiration at any car show.

This lot is offered Without Reserve from The Roger Boman Collection, which comprises 27 vehicles ranging from European to American classics. Many examples within the collection feature Mr. Boman’s standard modification “formula,” including but not limited to the addition of disc brakes, air conditioning, modern fuel injection, and many other custom touches seen by countless enthusiasts around the Fresno, California area who shared the late owner’s passion for this unique assortment of automobiles.
