Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Resuming civilian truck production in August 1945, General Motors would launch their all-new series of pickups on 28 June 1947. They were wider, longer, and lower than the prewar leftovers previously offered. Chevrolet called these landmark trucks “Advance Design” while GMC called them “New Design.” Both were thoroughly modern designs that began up front with the rear-hinged “alligator” hood protecting the incredibly robust and well-proven “Stovebolt” six-cylinder engine, a unisteel cab with grill, fenders, and hood were all mounted directly to the frame to minimize vibrations. GMCs shared most components with their Chevrolet counterparts but offered a slightly different look, a larger engine with more power, and heavier-duty components, catering to a market that required robust performance. Selling through their vast dealership network, the Chevy “Advance Design” trucks were a huge success, while the GMC “New Design” was offered through other GM division dealers in smaller numbers.

This uncommon 1950 GMC Half-Ton Pickup received a frame-off restoration from a solid original southern truck around 2012. “Out ahead for 1950” is how GMC portrayed their trucks, and this beautiful example of the “New Design” shows why.
