Description

Hagerty Marketplace is honored to offer another selection of vehicles from The SugarCreek Collection. This private collection in southwestern Ohio is supported by its own in-house restoration and maintenance shop, with a full-time staff of craftsmen. The garage is a true spectrum of car enthusiast dreams, ranging from unfinished restorations to the most recent sale of the SEMA-exhibited 1,000 HP 1962 Dodge Power Wagon, supporting the Mike Rowe WORKS Foundation. Thirty select cars from the collection are being offered just in time for spring. Whether awaiting restoration, preserved showroom stock, restored to like-new, or tastefully modified, these cars and trucks are truly SugarCreek quality.

* * *

The 1948 Cadillac Series 61 and Series 62 models were the first new designs from the company following World War II. The wheelbase was shorter than the '47 models, which were basically warmed-over 1942s. While the new Cadillacs featured a new lower and wider body design, the big news was the appearance of Cadillac's iconic tailfin, which housed the rear taillight (and the fuel filler on the driver's side). Fins would characterize Cadillacs for the next 30 years and would be adopted as a styling cue across manufacturers through the end of the '50s and beyond.

Production of the third-generation 1948 Series 61 and 62 models was abbreviated to about eight months and production was modest. However, the other shoe dropped in 1949 when Cadillac introduced the new 160-horsepower, 331 cubic-inch overhead valve (OHV) V8 as a replacement to the ponderous 346 cu-in flathead. It could be paired with a three-speed manual or four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Inside, the Series 62 featured luxurious amenities, including plush upholstery and a spacious interior. Series 62 sales shot up to 55,000, including about 8,000 convertible coupes like this beautiful example, which SugarCreek restored about 12 years ago.
