Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Following the conclusion of World War II, soldiers returned to civilian life and Willys-Overland realized the potential of their dependable platform used for wartime Jeeps for a road-going version. They decided to produce Willys Jeep models for the public, which included one of America's first all-metal station wagons and the Jeepster. The Jeepster was a unique design, styled by the famous industrial designer Brooks Stevens. It was available with both four- and six-cylinder engines and was the last traditional phaeton built by an American automaker. Despite having an all-steel body, its flat panels from the cowl back gave it the familiar lines of early wooden cars. The Jeepster was introduced in 1946, followed by a two-wheel drive pickup truck the next year, and then the Jeepster in 1948 with numerous deluxe features and interior options equipped as standard equipment. The Jeepster utilized a compact wheelbase, providing a short turning radius, which made it extremely useful for navigating thick traffic and easy parking. Willys-Overland boasted about its remarkable roadability, which was paired with balanced weight distribution, making it an enjoyable ride on the way to your next car show.

This lot is offered Without Reserve from The Roger Boman Collection, which comprises 27 vehicles ranging from European to American classics. Many examples within the collection feature Mr. Boman’s standard modification “formula,” including but not limited to the addition of disc brakes, air conditioning, modern fuel injection, and many other custom touches seen by countless enthusiasts around the Fresno, California area who shared the late owner’s passion for this unique assortment of automobiles.
