Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Charles Griffin’s lifelong love affair with American cars began at sixteen when he restored a dusty blue Studebaker. The passion he had for that car followed him through the rest of his life. Over the years, the scale of his garage and projects grew in step with his love for cars. Ultimately, Charles built his own restoration paradise, complete with a paint room, body shop, show room and features that most gearheads only dream about. His sanctuary became a second home to his family and friends. The selection of fine automobiles offered here represent the passion, drive, and memories that Charles shared. Hagerty Marketplace is honored to present the Griffin Collection, offered entirely without reserve.

* * *

The 1927 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Brewster Piccadilly Roadster is a distinguished icon of early 20th-century luxury and engineering. Manufactured in Springfield, Massachusetts, it was part of Rolls-Royce’s American production line, tailored to the refined tastes of wealthy U.S. clientele. This model succeeded the famed Silver Ghost and featured a 7.7-liter inline-six engine, delivering the smooth, near-silent performance that defined the Rolls-Royce experience.

While most American-built Rolls-Royces of the era featured formal, closed coachwork, the Piccadilly Roadster stood out with its lightweight, sporty design. Crafted by Brewster & Co. — a leading American coachbuilder renowned for elegance and innovation—the Piccadilly Roadster was among the most stylish body styles available. Only 45 Phantom I chassis were ever fitted with this distinctive coachwork, making it a rare and highly coveted piece.

Today, the 1927 Phantom I Brewster Piccadilly Roadster is celebrated not only for its rarity but also for its embodiment of the opulence, craftsmanship, and timeless design that characterized the Roaring Twenties. It remains a shining example of the golden age of motoring and a testament to Rolls-Royce’s enduring legacy of excellence.
