OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The Nethercutt Collection is one of America’s finest Automotive Museums and Collections, a masterpiece comprising over 250 perfectly restored American and European motor cars, along with a vast array of rare mechanical musical instruments and precious antique furniture.
Maintaining a classic car collection of this size is never easy, and when it reaches the scale of our collection, it becomes increasingly more challenging. Our founder, J.B. Nethercutt said the following at age 91, “The recognition and preservation of beauty has been a major focus of my life. It would suit me well if what people remembered about me was, ‘Where he went, he left beauty behind.’”
As a result, we have decided to part ways with a small group of cars from the collection and will do so in partnership with our friends at Hagerty Marketplace. Many of the cars we have decided to sell we have owned for in excess of 50 years, or have been in storage, not on display, or represent a tremendous opportunity as a restoration project. They are a compelling mix of pre-war examples that have been thoroughly well-cared for and that will easily find new caretakers who will undoubtedly cherish and use them as intended.
As we say goodbye to this group of cars, we hope the occasion for their sale will introduce us to new collectors and enthusiasts, and we look forward to hosting you at the Museum and Collection in Sylmar, California, in the coming months, years and decades.

The 1923 Chevrolet Superior Series B Four-Door Sedan marked a pivotal moment in Chevrolet’s rise as a dominant force in the American automotive market. Introduced as part of the Superior line, the Series B was designed to offer affordable, reliable transportation to the growing middle class. It featured a 171-cu-in inline-four engine producing 26 horsepower, paired with a conventional three-speed manual transmission. The Series B was also notable for its improved engineering and comfort over previous models. It included refinements such as a stronger frame, better suspension, and more spacious interiors. The four-door sedan variant offered practicality for families, with a closed body that protected passengers from the elements—a significant advantage over the open touring cars still common at the time.
Chevrolet’s strategy of offering more features at a lower price than competitors like Ford helped the brand gain market share. The 1923 model year was also the first to feature standardized parts across body styles, streamlining production and maintenance.
This 1923 Chevrolet Superior Series B Four-Door Sedan holds a special place in The Nethercutt Collection—it was restored by Mr. J.B. Nethercutt in memory of his first car, an identical Superior Series B Four-Door Sedan.

Ownership History
This car was purchased from Kenneth L. Buzzard, Long Beach, California (owned for over 20 years).
The Nethercutt Collection tells the special story of this 1923 Chevrolet Superior Series B Four-Door Sedan: “Towards the end of his life, J.B. Nethercutt decided to purchase the identical car to which he first owned as a teenager. He traded a .22 caliber rifle and $12 to buy his first car, a 1923 Chevy. Although the original car is long gone, J.B chose to purchase and fully restore an identical version of his first car to remind him of his times dating Dorothy, the woman he would eventually be married to for 74 years until they both passed in 2004.”
