Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Hagerty Marketplace is honored to offer another selection of vehicles from The SugarCreek Collection. This private collection in southwestern Ohio is supported by its own in-house restoration and maintenance shop, with a full-time staff of craftsmen. The garage is a true spectrum of car enthusiast dreams, ranging from unfinished restorations to the most recent sale of the SEMA-exhibited 1,000 HP 1962 Dodge Power Wagon, supporting the Mike Rowe WORKS Foundation. Thirty select cars from the collection are being offered just in time for spring. Whether awaiting restoration, preserved showroom stock, restored to like-new, or tastefully modified, these cars and trucks are truly SugarCreek quality.

Lightning struck in 1964 when new Super Stock rules, a dedicated group of drag racers, and Ford’s lightweight Fairlane sedans converged to create the legendary Thunderbolts. Ford’s drag racing team capitalized on the NHRA’s 427 cu-in engine and 3,200-pound weight mandates by ordering 10 maroon 1964 Fairlane 500s in 1963. All were delivered without radios, heaters, or seam sealer, and were a couple hundred pounds lighter than Ford’s Galaxie race cars.

Powerful high-rise 427 V8s were installed, and chassis and suspension work was done to launch the cars on narrow slicks. Lightness was added with fiberglass front fenders, teardrop hoods, and Plexiglas side windows. Buckets replaced bench seats, and window cranks, lights, and even the passenger side windshield wiper and sun visor were tossed. When finished the cars came in just under 3,200 pounds, and due to NHRA homologation rules Ford ended up building another 117 white Thunderbolts. And after a season running deep into the 11s, the Thunderbolts remain some of the world’s most highly desired factory race cars.

This street/strip Thunderbolt replica has been restored by SugarCreek, is based off of a 1964 two-door sedan, and is powered by a 427 cu-in V8 with a four-speed manual transmission.
