Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
After nine years of continuous improvement, the 1962 Corvette was the most powerful and refined model year of the first-generation design. Those refinements included a refreshed body that removed much of the chrome “gingerbread” that the Corvette accumulated in the late 1950s, while new rear styling with four taillights echoed the upcoming Sting Ray’s design. The final C1 Corvette was also the quickest to date, with the small-block V8 growing from 283 cu-in to 327 cu-in and rated at 250 horsepower. Subtle tweaks to the original design before the entirely new Corvette of 1963 included body-color side coves lacking chrome trim, a louvered trim piece replacing the three “spears” on 1961 models, and new rocker panel molding. Today, these later-production C1s appeal to collectors for their added power and refined styling, representing the swan song of the solid axle Corvette.
This lot is offered Without Reserve from The Roger Boman Collection, which comprises 27 vehicles ranging from European to American classics. Many examples within the collection feature Mr. Boman’s standard modification “formula,” including but not limited to the addition of disc brakes, air conditioning, modern fuel injection, and many other custom touches seen by countless enthusiasts around the Fresno, California area who shared the late owner’s passion for this unique assortment of automobiles.
