Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

The 1938 Ford Station Wagon epitomizes the charm and distinctiveness of early 20th-century American station wagons, blending utilitarian design with aesthetic charm. Characterized by its wood-bodied construction, the station wagon, evolved from the needs of the early automotive era, drawing inspiration from the shooting brake a horse-drawn wagon used for hunting expeditions, crafted entirely from wood. In the United States, wagons gained popularity primarily ferrying passengers and their luggage from train stations to their destinations.  The 1938 Ford Station Wagon was particularly notable for its seven-passenger capacity with three rows. This 1938 Ford is finished in a fetching shade of blue, complimenting the Birds-Eye maple wood bodywork. The vinyl top is supported by exposed bows and matches the brown vinyl interior. Restored by the owners, this 1938 Ford encapsulates the early development of American automotive history.

This lot is offered Without Reserve from The Roger Boman Collection, which comprises 27 vehicles ranging from European to American classics. Many examples within the collection feature Mr. Boman’s standard modification “formula,” including but not limited to the addition of disc brakes, air conditioning, modern fuel injection, and many other custom touches seen by countless enthusiasts around the Fresno, California area who shared the late owner’s passion for this unique assortment of automobiles.
