The 2023 Dodge Challenger marked the end of an era for this iconic muscle car, which had been a symbol of American automotive performance and style since its debut in 1970. The original Challenger was designed to compete with the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro, and it featured a range of powerful engines, including the legendary HEMI V8. When the second-generation Challenger arrived in 1978, however, it had become a reimagined, badge-engineered Mitsubishi Galant Lambda — a significant departure from its muscle car roots — and production ended in 1983. 

The Challenger made a triumphant return in 2008, when Dodge returned to its classic muscle car roots. This third generation brought back the Challenger’s aggressive styling and powerful engines, including the SRT Hellcat and Demon models, which pushed performance boundaries. 

For the Challenger’s 2023 finale, a series of “Last Call” special editions paid homage to the car’s storied history. This one, for example, is an R/T Scat Pack Swinger Special Edition, which includes more than $15,000 in performance upgrades.
