Introduced at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the McLaren 570S Spider was the long-awaited convertible variant of the 570S hardtop. Because coupe and convertible models were developed simultaneously, meaning the Spider required no structural reinforcement, retaining the rigidity of the MonoCell II carbon‑fiber chassis.

Weighing only minimally more than the coupé, the Spider preserved identical performance benchmarks thanks to its 3.8‑liter twin‑turbocharged V8, aerodynamic bodywork, and low‑slung packaging. Its retractable hardtop operates at up to 25 mph and integrates seamlessly into the rear deck without compromising the vehicle’s aerodynamic balance. A 12‑mm taller rear spoiler compensates for altered airflow patterns created by open‑top motoring, ensuring stability and consistent downforce at high speeds.

The Spider’s exterior retained the brand’s “shrink‑wrapped” surface language, with deep air intakes and creased door lines designed to channel air efficiently to the engine bay.
