The automotive news that crossed the wires on 11 July 2014 was stunning: “The new Challenger SRT Hellcat captured the title the ‘FASTEST MUSCLE CAR EVER’ with a National Hot Rod Association-certified quarter-mile elapsed time of 11.2 seconds at 125 miles per hour (mph) with stock Pirelli P275/40ZR20 P Zero tires.” Pulling a reliable 707 horsepower out of the Hellcat’s third-generation HEMI required 91 percent new engine components. That intercooled IHI supercharger displacing 2,300 cc on top can suck the air out of a medium sized U-Haul truck in sixty seconds, and high-performance suspension, Brembo disc brakes, and Pirelli P Zero tires makes it more than just a straight-line performer. For the first time in Dodge’s 100-year history a car came with two keys: The black key allows “only” 500 horsepower to be generated, while the red key unleashes the entire 707 horsepower beast. 

This 2015 Challenger is one of those first-year Hellcats that made the headlines, of just 7,198 built. It was ordered in that modern adaptation of the “Sublime Green” paint made famous in the 1960s, with removable Hellcat logos added under its professionally installed paint protective film.
