2014 Jaguar XK Convertible

Description

When the all-new XK launched in 2007, it started a seven-year revolution that elevated Jaguar’s grand touring machines. The XK’s innovative aluminum chassis was both light and stiff, and featured a wheelbase that was six inches longer than the previous model. It wore an aluminum body that was three inches wider, with sensuous curves flowing up the oval grille opening, over the long hood, and down the short rear end. Aggressive horizontal fender vents and short overhangs framed large wheels, ensuring that it would be seen as a seriously sporty luxury car.

The XK announced its sporting pedigree with a sophisticated suspension, huge brakes, and a powerful, direct-injected 5.0-liter V8 engine. That high-tech mill sent power to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission controlled by paddle shifters. Car & Driver testers were viscerally and audibly pleased: “In addition to shuffling the XK about effortlessly, turning in a 5.0-second 0-to-60 flick, and bellowing through the quarter in 13.5 at 107 mph, the 5.0 sounds marvelously unrestrained, nearly out of place in a car so elegant.”
