That 5.8L mill delivered an astonishing 662 horsepower and 631 lb-ft of torque, but just as impressive was how the quick GT500 had also become an agile and balanced sports car.

Just under the GT500’s aggressive body lay advanced cooling, suspension, and braking systems to support and balance out the blown V8. A massive front air intake fed the beast lots of cool air. A refined chassis resulted in sharper steering, quicker response, and greater predictability near the lateral limit. And pizza pan-sized Brembo brakes hauled it down from 60 mph in an impressive 101 feet. Factor in the SVT Performance Package offering electronically adjustable Bilstein dampers and a Torsen limited-slip differential, and an SVT Track Pack packed with fluid coolers and cooling ducts for extended hot lapping, and the GT500 was a remarkably balanced and confidence-inspiring driving machine.
