The CL Coupe was a bold statement from Mercedes-Benz. Revealed in 2006 as a flagship model, the CL was based on the S-Class — it had a 116-inch wheelbase and maintained the S-Class sedan’s intimidating presence, but wore the styling of a performance coupe. Its curvy 201-inch body conveyed both hot rod attitude and luxury aesthetics, with a low roofline met with windows that followed the roof’s contours, creating a bold silhouette. An aggressive grille and fascia balanced the swept-back headlights, and a sloping trunk was framed by large taillights and quad exhaust tips

The 2012 CL63 AMG Coupe descended from AMG performance models that had been powered by both supercharged and naturally aspirated engines. However, the new CL63 AMG’s 5.5-liter V8 wore twin turbochargers that helped it make 536 horsepower. And backed by huge torque, AMG Active Body Control suspension, and massive brakes controlling sticky tires, this 4,500-pound beast was both brutally fast on the straights, and surgical in the curves.
