Description

Ford debuted its Boss 302 variant of the popular Mustang in 1969 and 1970 to meet homologation requirements mandated to compete in Trans Am racing. While the racing Boss 302 underwent substantial modifications, the public received a street-legal 302 cu in High Output V8 variant with upgrades to the suspension and brakes.

Ford revived the Boss 302 nameplate with its introduction of the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine, with a forged crankshaft, ported heads, revised camshafts and high flow intake. It was paired to a MT-82 manual six-speed transmission and solid rear axle with a 3.73:1 limited-slip differential. The aero package, as seen in this example, is stolen from the Boss 302R race car.

The Laguna Seca edition is the top-of-the-line Boss 302, named after the famous California raceway. It featured Recaro sport seats, a Torsen limited-slip rear differential, suspension tuning and a larger rear sway bar. Rear seats were deleted and replace with an X-brace, providing additional structural rigidity. Additionally, lightweight alloy wheels were fitted with R-compound ultra high-performance tires.
