In 2007, Carroll Shelby’s legacy continued with the introduction of the Mustang Shelby GT — a bold new chapter in the story of high-performance pony cars. Built on the fifth-generation Mustang GT platform, the Shelby GT shared its roots with the 2006 Hertz-exclusive GT-H. 

Each Shelby GT was sent to Shelby’s Las Vegas facility for a full performance makeover. Engine enhancements included a cold air intake, high-flow exhaust, and a retuned ECU. Meanwhile, the suspension was dialed in with stiffer shocks and struts, beefier stabilizer bars, and springs that dropped the ride height by 1.5 inches. The result was a 19-horsepower bump over the standard GT, made even more thrilling by a 3.55:1 rear axle ratio that delivered a punchy, seat-of-the-pants driving experience. 

In 2008, Shelby GT buyers could choose between Black, Vista Blue or Grabber Orange paint, accented with racing stripes. And while the 2008 coupes looked killer with a brushed aluminum grille, aggressive hood scoop, and 18-inch wheels, a new convertible option let buyers drop the top and the gas pedal at the same time.  

2,214 2008 Shelby GTs were built — with only a small number of Vista Blue Convertible five-speeds, making this example a rarity in the collector-car world.
