Description
The 2008 Bentley Continental GT Speed was the most powerful production car the brand had ever built at the time. Inspired by the original 1923 Bentley “Speed” models, the GT Speed was designed for both luxury and high performance. It featured a re-engineered 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine, producing 600 bhp and 553 lb-ft of torque — a substantial increase over the standard Continental GT.
This powertrain enabled the GT Speed to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 202 mph, the first Bentley to break the 200-mph barrier. Enhancements included a lower, stiffer suspension, wider 20-inch wheels, and optional carbon-ceramic brakes. Subtle design cues like a dark-tinted grille and larger tailpipes distinguished it visually.
The GT Speed not only elevated Bentley’s performance credentials but also broadened its appeal to a younger, more dynamic clientele. Car and Driver magazine declared, “The Speed amazes for what it doesn’t do: squeal through a tight hairpin when thrown in like a Lotus Elise, fade its brakes when pounded on a track like a Porsche, let wind deflect its awesome straight-line charges (acceleration is still enthralling from 100 to 150), or otherwise heed the laws of physics.” And this GT Speed has a RENNtech performance upgrade adding an additional 40 to 50 horsepower.
