The latest addition to Carroll Shelby's enduring legacy in the realm of high-performance Pony Cars debuted in 2007 as the Mustang Shelby GT, based on the fifth-generation GT Deluxe model. Closely related to the Hertz rental-only GT-H of 2006, each Shelby GT began life as a standard GT model manufactured in Flat Rock, Michigan, before being shipped to the performance experts at the Shelby factory in Las Vegas, Nevada. There, the GT received a $10,530 upgrade encompassing a power gain of 19 horsepower over the standard GT, with a cold air intake, a more aggressive engine-computer tune, a high-flow exhaust, and an inch-and-a-half suspension drop thanks to stiffer shocks, springs, and anti-roll bars front and rear. Cosmetically, the Shelby GT was treated to the GT’s optional 18-inch wheels, a choice of White or Black paint with silver graphics, brushed aluminum grille, and a simulated hood scoop. Fewer than 6,000 Shelby GTs were produced in 2007, making it an excellent entry point into Carroll Shelby’s legendary and highly collectible creations.
