The Audi “B7” platform was launched in 2003 in sedan, cabriolet, and wagon (Avant) body styles. The all-alloy 4.2-liter V8 engine produces 340 horsepower at a pitched 7000 rpm and 302 lb-ft torque at a low-down 3500 rpm. When fitted with the Getrag six-speed manual transmission, as this example is, it can rocket from zero to 60 in 5.4 seconds. Audi’s Quattro permanent all-wheel drive with Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) plays a large part in the initial launch off the line. As the engine revs rise, the engine emits a raucous howl. It’s truly the heart of the car with the sound exiting through quad-tailpipes. The S4’s speed is brought to a halt via four-wheel ventilated disc brakes. Automatics outnumber manuals two to one, and those examples with the manual transmission provide extra driver engagement that enthusiasts crave while being hugged tightly by the RECARO sport seats. While the sedans are relatively common and the cabriolets are fun, the Avants – especially the 6MT versions – are as rare as hen’s teeth and a clear future classic in the making.

Ownership History 

According to the original service book, this S4 Avant was originally sold via Audi of Rochester Hills on 7 September 2006 with the window sticker showing an MSRP of $55,570.  Additionally, the clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report shows the original owner kept the car for six years and 58,000 miles before selling to its second Michigan owner. Transferring to its third Michigan owner in 2021 today this Audi S4 Avant Quattro shows 102,482 miles.
