Description

In 2003, the Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG debuted in America as a luxurious, high-performance roadster. Based on the stylish SL500 two-seater, the SL55 featured the aggressive styling and massive power that M-B's in-house AMG performance brand is famous for. The SL55 AMG wore AMG-spec side skirts, a front spoiler, and unique wheels. It coddled occupants with supremely comfortable leather seats and a 10-speaker audio system. And it quickly retracted its power hardtop and raised a wind deflector, resulting in a comfortable and quiet top-down motoring experience.

That is, until the hand-built, 493-horsepower 5.5L supercharged V8 screamed to redline, launching the SL55 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, and blasting through the quarter mile in 13 seconds flat at 110 mph. And while its top speed was restricted to 155, Mercedes claimed that unlimited SL55s could do over 200 mph. One impressed Motor Trend tester stated, “Unless you have taken a handful of bravery pills, it's best to wait awhile before switching off the stability control.”

This example is finished in Pewter, with Gray leather upholstery and Designo Alcantara Alpaca Gray interior trim. It has been optioned with the COMAND system with navigation, Parktronic, Keyless Go, and a premium 10-speaker audio system with CD changer.
