Description

A modern homage to the iconic GT40 of the 1960s, the Ford GT was first introduced as a concept car in 2002, where it would receive such an overwhelming response that Ford decided to put it into production. Appearing at the North American International Auto Show in 2004, the new Ford GT was heavily inspired by the original GT40, with its sleek, low-slung body, prominent air intakes, and optional twin racing stripes running from front to rear. While externally it was visually similar to the original, it was a completely twenty-first-century design. It featured a lightweight frame, aluminum and composite body panels, bonded floor panels, and an engine cover with a one-piece carbon fiber inner panel protecting the longitudinal, rear-mounted all-alloy supercharged overhead-cam V8. The new GT was an extraordinary driving machine and is still considered one of the best supercars ever produced; it was, in Ford’s language, “The Pace Car for an Entire Company.”
