2005 Ford GT

Description
Originally developed as a concept car inspired by the famed GT40 of the 1960s, the Ford GT concept received such an overwhelming response when it was first shown in 2002, Ford decided to put it into production. First shown in official production form at the North American International Auto Show in 2004, the sleek, low-slung body, prominent air intakes, and optional racing stripes inspired by the GT40 would turn out to be the perfect twenty-first century interpretation of the iconic 1960s race car. While inspired by a 1960s race car on the outside, underneath the new Ford GT would utilize a lightweight frame, aluminum and composite body panels, bonded floor panels, and an engine cover with a one-piece carbon fiber inner panel covering the brutally powerful rear-mounted supercharged V8. Now joined by the high-tech second-generation Ford GT often described as a Le Mans car for the road, the first generation provides a more driver-focused approach with 550 horsepower and a manual transmission that provides a thrilling experience with maximum engagement. Considered by many to be one of the best supercars ever produced, the Ford GT surely accomplished the objective of “The Pace Car for an Entire Company.”
