2001 Honda S2000

Description

The Honda S2000, introduced in 1999 to commemorate Honda’s 50th anniversary, was designed as a modern take on the classic roadster concept, inspired by Honda's S roadsters of the 1960s. At its heart was the F20C engine, a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder mill with dual overhead cams and Honda's variable valve timing system (VTEC). The engine produced 240 horsepower and 153 lb-ft of torque (and 0–60 mph in approximately 5.5 seconds) making it the most powerful naturally aspirated engine relative to displacement at the time. 

Equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and a Torsen limited-slip differential as standard, the nimble roadster was acclaimed for its predictable handling and ideal 50/50 weight distribution. As Car and Driver put it, “Imagine if Formula One engineers built a sports car. Well, they did.” 

The S2000’s looks and performance rivaled that of the BMW Z3 and Porsche Boxster all while paired with Honda's legendary reliability. And although driving dynamics were top priority, Honda didn’t neglect the creature comforts, including an AM/FM/CD stereo, power steering, and a power-operated top as standard.  

In the nearly 25 years since this 2001 Honda S2000 rolled off the assembly line, its engine has been opened just once — to upgrade the valve retainers and keepers, a known issue with the first-gen AP1.
