One-Owner 2001 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra Convertible

Description

The “Fox-4” Mustangs introduced in 1994 received their usual mid-life styling update in 1999. Design director Patrick Schiavone developed three possible themes for the Mustang: athletic “Bruce Jenner,” muscular “Arnold Schwarzenegger,” and hyper-aggressive “Rambo.”

The 1999 update, called “New Edge,” had more of the Schwarzenegger theme, while the SVT Cobra added a bit of the Ram look. The real “Rambo”, however, was under the Cobra’s hood, a true high-performance American V8 known by many as the “Romeo Engine.” Carefully hand-built by just two trusted technicians at the engine plant in Romeo, Michigan, this 4.6-liter DOHC multi-valve powerplant utilized an all-aluminum block and a new tumble-port cylinder-head design that improved combustion efficiency and increased output to 320 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, 15 more than the previous Cobra. SVT also added independent rear suspension in an effort to make the ultra-Mustang more drivable on rough pavement.

After a year off in 2000, the SVT Cobra returned and Ford sold 3,867 coupes and 3,384 convertibles in 2001, just like this nearly new Cobra. Carefully preserved and showing just over 15,274 miles, this True Blue Cobra convertible still flexes its muscles.
