Introduced in 1996 as a replacement for the aging XJS, the XK8 marked a new era for Jaguar, being the first model built under Ford’s ownership and the first to feature Jaguar’s AJ-V8 engine. The XK8’s design, penned by Geoff Lawson and built on the Jaguar X100 platform, was widely praised for its sleek, flowing lines and nods to the iconic E-Type.
By 2000, the XK8 had matured into a refined and luxurious GT car. It was powered by a 4.0-liter DOHC V8 engine, producing around 290 horsepower, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain delivered smooth acceleration and a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph, offering a blend of performance and comfort that appealed to traditional Jaguar enthusiasts. In addition, the XK8 featured advanced safety and suspension systems, including traction control and adaptive damping, and for 2000, Jaguar also introduced subtle updates, including improved electronics and optional features like navigation. Inside, the cabin’s driver-focused layout received rich leather and real wood trim.
Though production of the XK8 continued until 2006, the 2000 model year represents a sweet spot of classic Jaguar styling and modern reliability.
