Description
In 1994 Carroll Shelby set out to create a modern spiritual successor to his legendary Cobra. The result was the Shelby Series 1—the first all-new Shelby design since the 1960s and the only clean-sheet automobile Shelby himself ever built.
At its core was a sophisticated extruded aluminum chassis with bonded aluminum honeycomb panels of Shelby’s own design, clothed in a sleek carbon‑fiber body. Power came from Oldsmobile’s 4.0‑liter Aurora DOHC V8, rated at 320 horsepower and paired with an RBT/ZF six‑speed manual transmission. With curb weight under 3,000 pounds, the Series 1 could sprint from 0–60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. Shelby also offered a Vortech supercharger raising output to 450 horsepower, like this example. Road & Track called the Series 1, “a featherweight fighter with serious punch.”
The Shelby name ensured early interest, but producing a low‑volume sports car in 1999 proved far more complex than building Cobras in 1962. Rising costs tied to modern testing and safety certification curtailed production at just 249 cars, making this Centennial Silver Series 1—number 176—an extraordinary example of Shelby’s vision. This example is among the rare supercharged 450‑horsepower versions, with a production run of no more than 60 units, and it now shows under 10,000 miles.
This 1999 Shelby Series 1 Supercharged is now offered at no reserve in Florida by the selling dealer with a clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report and a clean Montana title.
