Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The Renault Sport Spider emerged in the mid‑1990s as Renault’s bold effort to reassert its sporting identity after a period of decline. Conceived in the early 1990s under Project W94, the Spider was designed as both a road car and the basis for a one‑make racing series.
Featuring an aluminum chassis, composite bodywork, and a mid‑mounted 2.0‑liter F7R inline-four engine producing 150 horsepower, it emphasized minimalist engineering. Early versions lacked a windscreen, requiring drivers to wear helmets. Production ran through 1999, yielding roughly 1,726 units, including about 80 race‑only Spider Trophy cars.
This 3,400-mile 1998 Renault Sport Spider was delivered new to Japan and imported to the U.S. in January 2024 after the 25-year import rule expired. As a lightweight, motorsport‑inspired driver’s car, the 2,127-pound roadster lacks nearly every comfort, safety, and convenience feature that modern drivers take for granted — no top, no power steering, no ABS, no heating system, no A/C, and an extremely stripped‑down interior. The car does, however, feature a heated windshield, Recaro sport bucket seats, adjustable pedals, a rear roll bar/roll arch, and scissor-opening, Lamborghini-style doors. It is finished in silver paint over a black and gray interior.
This 1998 Renault Sport Spider is now represented at no reserve by a Broad Arrow Specialist with a clean Florida title.
