1,800-Mile 1994 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Pace Car Convertible

On May 30, 1964, the revolutionary new Mustang convertible led the field to the start of the Indianapolis 500. Thirty years later, another Mustang convertible did the same. Ford celebrated the Mustang’s 30th anniversary with the long-awaited replacement for the 15-year-old third-generation car. Code named SN-95, this Mustang was 80% new and design director Patrick Schiavone even brought back some design elements of the original Mustang. For performance enthusiasts the SVT Cobra was also available as a convertible for the first time, which was selected to pace the 70th running of the Indianapolis 500. All Cobra convertibles were called “Indy 500 Pace Car Replicas” and included E8 Rio Red paint, a rear decklid badge, serialized dash plaque, and dealer-installed Official Indy 500 Pace Car graphics. Ford sold all of the planned Cobras that year, 5,009 coupes and 1,000 Pace Car convertibles.

For those who missed the ’94 Pace Car when new, this one has been wonderfully well-preserved by two owners and is showing about 1,800 miles. Celebrating 30 years of “America’s favorite pony car,” this 1994 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Pace Car Convertible is still the leader of the pack.
