Description
With the Fox-Body Mustang nearing the end of its run after nearly 15 years, Ford and their newly formed Special Vehicles Team (SVT) built the Cobra as a farewell to the platform. SVT's group of engineers specifically targeted enthusiasts as it sought to create limited-edition, high-performance vehicles based on existing Ford models.
The Mustang-based 1993 SVT Cobra featured model-specific brakes and suspension with an increased track width, and it stands out visually from its GT counterpart with an exclusive rear bumper, side skirts, spoiler, emblems, and grille as well as SVO-style taillights and 17” turbine-style directional wheels.
Power comes from a 302ci OHV V8, which was factory rated at 235 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque thanks to a Cobra-specific upper intake manifold and camshaft, 24lb fuel injectors, a 65mm throttle body, GT40 cast-iron cylinder heads, and aluminum roller rockers in addition to a less restrictive exhaust system and 14% smaller crankshaft and water pump pulleys.
The increased power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Borg-Warner “world-class” T-5 five-speed manual transmission and an 8.8” rear axle with a Traction-Lok differential and 3.08:1 gearing.
Just 4,993 SVT Cobras were produced for the 1993 model year, and this example was factory finished in Black (UA), and was refinished under current ownership. The car was optioned with Opal Grey leather upholstery as well as over $2k in optional equipment, including an electric rear window defroster and the Preferred Equipment Package 250A, which added air conditioning as well as power windows and locks.
This SVT Cobra was delivered new to Northside Ford in San Antonio, Texas, and spent over 10 years registered in the state. It was acquired in 2020 by the seller, who installed Bilstein dampers, Eibach springs, a front strut tower bar, Flowmaster exhaust components, a JVC head unit, a battery tender, and a 200-amp alternator.
This 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra shows 58,400 miles and is now offered with parts receipts, a window sticker, a Deluxe Marti Report, an accident-free CARFAX Vehicle History Report, and a clean New Jersey title in the seller’s name.
