The Volvo 200 Series, produced from 1974 to 1993, stands as a testament to Volvo's commitment to safety and durability, with over 2.8 million units sold worldwide. Designed by Jan Wilsgaard, the 200 Series evolved from the Volvo 140 Series, retaining its predecessor's robustness while incorporating significant advancements. As introduced in the autumn of 1974, the Volvo 240 series initially offered various configurations, including sedans with two or four doors and station wagons. While resembling the earlier 140 and 164 models, the 200 Series integrated features and design elements tested in the Volvo VESC ESV prototype in 1972, enhancing overall safety with extensive front and rear crumple zones. Moreover, the introduction of new overhead cam engines, based on the earlier B20 design, marked a notable improvement in performance and efficiency for the 200 Series. This thoughtful engineering made them beloved by their owners when new, and they continue to have a devoted following as they transition to a practical classic.
