Description
The long-awaited successor to the “G-Series” Porsche 911 debuted in 1989 wearing form-fitting body-color bumpers, and while the car looked like it might be a mere reskin of the 930, Porsche declared that 87 percent of the components were new or redesigned. Offered in three different body styles (Coupe, Targa, and Cabriolet) and with two different drive configurations, all 964 Series Porsches (1989-94) are distinguished by their large rear spoilers that extend upward at 50 mph, then return to rest position below 6 mph.
These normally aspirated 911s featured Porsche’s world-famous 3.6-liter flat six-cylinder engine. With its smooth, steady power delivery and raspy engine note, it produced a healthy 247 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque. Naturally, the automotive press was enamored. Car and Driver magazine called it “the ultimate production Porsche.”
Overlooked in the collector market for some time, the 964-generation 911 is now properly recognized as highly collectible and a significant development of the air-cooled, rear-engine platform, which would come to an end with the succeeding 993 generation.
This well-cared for, two-owner, all-original 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupe shows 41,305 actual miles with only minor imperfections.
