Description
The 1991 Mitsubishi Galant VR‑4 was part of the sixth-generation Galant lineup, serving as a homologation special designed to meet Group A regulations for rally competition. Powered by Mitsubishi’s potent 2.0L turbocharged 4G63 inline-four featuring a cast-iron block, DOHC aluminum head, and a TD05H turbocharger feeding through an intercooler. The VR‑4 boasted full-time all-wheel drive with a viscous center differential, four-wheel steering, independent suspension, and ABS brakes—technologies directly derived from its rally pedigree. Only around 3,000 units were officially imported to the U.S. in 1991 and 1992 (2,000 in ’91 and 1,000 in ’92), each featuring numbered badges—though numbering didn’t reflect production sequence.
This Galant VR-4 is #501 of 2,000 examples produced for the US market in 1991, though it was sold new in Ontario, Canada, according to the included CARFAX history report. It is finished in matte gray over black leather upholstery. Power is sent to all four wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle with an upgraded clutch, and additional modifications include an uprated turbocharger and injectors along with a 3” exhaust system, high-flow catalytic converter, ECMLink ECU, front-mounted intercooler, louvered hood vents, and more. The four-wheel steering system and ABS have been removed, and the car rides on 17” OZ Racing alloy wheels.
This rare Galant VR-4 is now offered with a CARFAX history report, an assortment of spare parts, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.
