Description

The Mazda Miata floored the enthusiast community when it was introduced in the fall of 1989 for the 1990 model year. Few thought that there could ever be a re-imagined British roadster quite as competent, dependable, and utterly charming as this Japanese drop top. As Car and Driver magazine described it, “The Miata marked the return of the honest sports car, but with all of the practical benefits of a modern automobile.”

Known globally as the MX-5, the Miata reinvented a vehicle segment in ways that its contemporaries like the Toyota MR2, the Australian Mercury Capri, and even the Pontiac Fiero never could. And, perhaps more importantly, it thrived. Adored by the media and the public alike upon its introduction, the MX-5 first-generation roadster was selected Automobile Magazine's 1990 Automobile of the Year.

The roadster has the same DNA as the reputable and reliable Mazda 323, and the Miata's 120-horsepower, 1.6-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder engine — mated to a five-speed manual with suitably short throws — could propel the 2,200-pound car from 0 to 60 mph in about 9 seconds.

This two-owner, 1991 MX-5 Miata has received numerous racing upgrades, including roll bar, Recaro seats, quick-release steering wheel, five-point seat belts, and more.
