The Chevrolet Corvette C4, produced from 1983 to 1996, marked a significant departure from its predecessor with a complete redesign focused on modernity and performance. Engineered under Dave McLellan's leadership, the C4 introduced a new uniframe chassis, sleeker styling, and advanced features such as a glass hatchback and an electronic dashboard with a digital LCD instrument cluster. It emphasized handling and braking with its all-independent suspension system and lightweight components. The initial L98 engine, delivering 250 horsepower, was later upgraded to the more powerful LT1 and LT4 engines, enhancing performance considerably. Despite a challenging start with production delays and the cancellation of the 1983 model year, the C4 Corvette ultimately set a new standard for American sports cars and continued to influence Corvette design well into the future.
