Description

The 1990 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, often referred to as the “King of the Hill,” marked a significant milestone in Corvette history. This high-performance variant of the C4 Corvette was developed in collaboration with Lotus Engineering. The centerpiece of the ZR1 was its 5.7-liter LT5 V8 engine, which featured dual overhead camshafts and 32 valves, a departure from the traditional pushrod V8s used in previous Corvettes. Mercury Marine was employed to build this sophisticated all-aluminum engine. 

The LT5 engine produced an impressive 375 horsepower, allowing the ZR1 to achieve a top speed of 180 mph and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. This performance was complemented by a range of advanced features, including the Bilstein Selective Ride Control system and Bosch ABS. The ZR1 also featured distinctive styling cues, such as a wider rear track and tires, and a unique rear fascia, setting it apart from the standard Corvette. 

Road & Track magazine said of the 1990 ZR1, “You see, the ZR-1, one of the fastest sports cars in the world, is also blessed with superior handling and braking. Yet it is the most civilized and technologically advanced and the least expensive supercar in production because it is still a Corvette.”

Known Imperfections 

• On 29 April 2000 CARFAX reports “Accident reported with another motor vehicle.” A previous owner, the proprietor of the Chevrolet dealership that delivered the Corvette, stated, “It was bumped in our lot and the left rear quarter panel was repainted”.
