Description
“Suburban is the full-size vehicle that’s full of possibilities.” The 1988 Chevy Suburban was part of the seventh generation of this historic, durable vehicle — one of the longest-running nameplates in U.S. automotive history. Built for both families and off-road enthusiasts alike, the 1988 Suburban featured a rugged, boxy design with a spacious interior capable of seating up to nine passengers. It was available in both rear-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations, making it versatile on all kinds of terrain.
Under the hood, buyers could choose between a 5.7-liter V8 gasoline engine or a 6.2-liter diesel, backed up with a three- or four-speed automatic transmission. That powertrain offered modern features for its time, such as electronic fuel injection, that increased reliability.
Today, the 1988 Suburban is cherished by classic SUV enthusiasts for its nostalgic charm and robust build. It represents a time when vehicles were built to last, and serves a wide range of practical needs with minimal frills.
Speaking of built to last, this 1988 Suburban still wears its original 5.7-liter gas V8, auto transmission, and four-wheel drive system. It has been refinished in tan but is otherwise original, and sports a handsome burgundy interior.

Ownership History
The accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History Report places this 1988 Chevrolet Suburban in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
The consignor states, “This vehicle was purchased in 2020 from Eastern Oregon, a very dry climate with few rust issues. This Suburban is owned by my father, who enjoys keeping his vehicles in or near their original factory condition. Save for the repaint color, this Suburban is no exception. It receives frequent 3,000-mile oil changes, and has always been covered and kept out of the elements.”
