Description

By 1988, five years into the C4 Corvette’s production run, Chevrolet was steadily refining America’s Sports Car. With a full year’s production of the new aluminum cylinder heads under its belt, the 5.7-liter Tuned Port Injection V8 received a new camshaft and a low-friction valvetrain for 1988. The result was a healthy bump to 245 horsepower, delivered through either a four-speed automatic or the unique 4+3 manual overdrive transmission.

Underneath, the Corvette’s engineering was just as advanced. A fully independent suspension system featured forged aluminum A-arms and fiberglass transverse leaf springs, while anti-lock disc brakes and 16-inch wheels with 255mm tires helped the 3,200-pound car stay nimble. And the Z52 Sport Handling Package made the handling even sharper, with 17-inch wheels wrapped in 275mm tires, Bilstein shocks, and quicker steering, plus a heavy-duty radiator and oil cooler.

Inside, drivers enjoyed a digital “Star Wars”-style dashboard, supportive bucket seats, and a suite of standard features including air conditioning, cruise control, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and power windows and locks.
