Description
The 1986 Toyota Corolla GT-S is part of the fifth-generation Corolla lineup and known by its chassis code AE86. The GT-S was the sportier variant of the Corolla, featuring a lightweight rear-wheel-drive layout at a time when most compact cars were transitioning to front-wheel drive.
Under the hood, it housed a 1.6-liter DOHC 4A-GE inline-four engine that featured four valves per cylinder and was factory rated at 112 horsepower. This high-revving engine was paired with a close-ratio five-speed manual transmission. The AE86 was available in two body styles, the notchback coupe and the liftback hatchback, and became a favorite in grassroots racing and drifting thanks to its balance, agility, and affordability.
Today, the 1986 Corolla GT-S has a strong following in the tuner and collector communities. This AE86 is finished in red over gray cloth upholstery and wears a TRD N2-style fiberglass body kit. The 4A-GE is cooled by an aluminum radiator and fitted with an aftermarket distributor cap, rotor, and plug wires.
