Description
Chevrolet raised eyebrows in 1983 when it introduced the Z65 Super Sport package for its popular Monte Carlo. The newly minted Monte Carlo SS — produced from 1983 through 1988 — featured an aggressive front fascia and rear spoiler, bold colors, unique interior and exterior logos, and a 4-barrel-fed, 305-cubic-inch small-block V8.
In 1985, Chevrolet added optional T-tops and a four-speed overdrive automatic transmission paired with a 3.73 rear axle ratio, enhancing both style and drivability. A handful of changes were made in 1986 including a new dash cluster, and it marked the peak of the SS’s popularity with a record 41,164 units produced. A Car and Driver G-body comparison test concluded, “The Monte Carlo SS was our overall favorite…it offers a nicely balanced portfolio of acceleration, braking and handling, and NASCAR style.”
This Monte Carlo SS has been further modified with a rebuilt 358 cu-in V8, an upgraded 700R4 automatic utilizing a high-stall torque converter, an aftermarket shifter, and rear disc brakes hiding behind race slicks.
This 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS is now offered with removed and spare parts, a clean CARFAX Vehicle History report, and a clean Wisconsin title in the seller's name.
