Description

“It began as a dream born of the collective consciousness of a few inspired designers and engineers. A dream to build a sleek and exciting car to sweep you away and drive you into a refreshing new state of high fashion and high performance,” said the 1984 Pontiac Firebird brochure. Everything about the third-generation Firebird, produced from 1982 to 1992, was indeed shaped by the times. With engines capable of less horsepower than the glory days of the 1960s, Pontiac had to build a new Firebird that was smaller, lighter, and more aerodynamic, with a design that shaved seven inches off its wheelbase and eliminated 500 pounds. Thanks to its large glass hatchback and folding rear seats, the new Firebird was also more practical than its predecessors. The new Trans Am played a role in Smokey and the Bandit: Part 3 in theaters and was the basis for the KITT supercar in the Knight Rider TV series.  

This 1984 Trans Am received an extensive restoration in 2007 and is powered by a 355 cu-in V8 crate engine with upgrades.

Ownership History 

This California-built 1984 Trans Am was extensively restored by the previous owner in 2007, including brakes, suspension, paint, interior, and rubber seals. The consignor rebuilt the engine, transmission, and rear axle in 2020. The accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History Report places this 1984 Pontiac Trans Am in Illinois and Georgia.
