Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Huntsville, Alabama — or “Rocket City,” as we know it — is home to NASA rocket-propulsion research and development. This special offering is once again a presentation of the unique, with American Muscle, British class, and heavy post war iron from multiple platforms all on offer. These cars are ready for blastoff, and all will be launched to new homes and garages as all lots are presented with NO RESERVE. * * * In the mid-1980s, the fifth-generation Pontiac Grand Prix — riding on General Motors' intermediate G-body platform — found itself in the middle of the Ford versus GM NASCAR war. To battle Ford’s sleek Thunderbirds, GM designed a homologation special Grand Prix that could turn the tables on its Blue Oval rival.
The result was the Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2 Aerocoupe, which featured an aerodynamic body with a redesigned nose and a large, sloping rear window that channeled air down to a large decklid spoiler. In race form, that design reduced drag and rear-end lift for high-speed stability. And since those changes required Pontiac to offer a certain number of street-legal versions, 1,225 examples of the one-year-only 1986 Grand Prix 2+2 Aerocoupe were sold.
This 1982 Pontiac Grand Prix has been converted into a rolling tribute to Richard Petty’s 200th race win. It wears the race Aerocoupe’s front end and rear window, race-style wheels, and custom blue and red paint with numbers and sponsorship decals. A modified 5.0L V8 has been swapped in, backed by a three-speed automatic sending power to the rear wheels. The race-look interior features blue and red bucket seats, a race-style steering wheel and floor shifter, and a custom Richard Petty-themed instrument cluster. This NASCAR-style tribute has undergone a pre-sale brake service and oil change, and to top it all off, its dashboard has reportedly been signed by Richard Petty, making it a unique and desirable collectible.
This 1982 Pontiac Grand Prix is now represented at no reserve by a Broad Arrow Specialist with a car show plaque, a clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report, and an Alabama title in the current owner's name.
