Description

In late 1954, Kaiser revealed the CJ-5. Based on the M-38A1 from the Korean War, the CJ-5 featured stronger, more off-road-capable components. Yet its styling was softer and more rounded for the consumer market, and its longer 81-inch wheelbase made it more comfortable too. Over the years the drivetrain evolved from the original “Hurricane” F-head four-cylinder to numerous four-, six- and eight-cylinder options, as well as improved manual transmissions and axles.

The attractive, capable CJ-5 proved to be the longest-running version of the always-improving Jeep with a 30-year production run and more than 600,000 made. The CJ-5 has also crawled its way into the hearts of enthusiasts as well, with plenty of aftermarket parts available for this rugged 4x4.

This 1982 CJ-5 is a great example of a clean, highly customized Jeep. The current owner states he has spent more than $50,000 on its restoration and modifications, including a new engine, retrofitted five-speed transmission, lift kit and off-road parts, interior upgrade, and textured paint job. And it only has gone 10,000 miles since being completely refreshed.
