The Jeep story began when the U.S. Army sought a lightweight, highly capable reconnaissance vehicle for World War II. Willys‑Overland’s design, later known as the Willys MB, became the primary production model, earning a reputation for rugged reliability. After the war, Willys recognized the Jeep’s civilian potential and introduced the CJ‑2A, launching the Civilian Jeep era. Through the following decades, Jeep expanded into new segments, helping define the modern SUV.

The four-wheel-drive 1979 Jeep CJ‑5 represents one of the later evolutions of a model that was first introduced in 1954 and continued until 1983, making it one of Jeep’s longest‑running designs. By the late ’70s, the CJ‑5 had become known for its short wheelbase, rounded fenders, and military‑derived styling.

This ’79 CJ‑ 5 is powered by AMC’s 258-cubic‑inch inline‑six, a durable, torque‑rich engine that become a staple of Jeep performance. It features a three-speed manual gearbox, a two-speed transfer case, and leaf-sprung solid axles. The CJ-5 is refinished in blue paint over black vinyl interior and was upgraded with power steering, custom wheels, fender flare trim, Leon Rosser/Think Jeep! bucket seats, sport steering wheel, an AutoGage 8,000-rpm tachometer, a CD stereo, and a center console with cup holders.

The 1979 Jeep CJ-7 is now offered at no reserve by the selling dealer in Oklahoma with a rear-mounted spare tire and a clean Illinois title.
