Description

After the original International Scout proved that four-wheel-drive vehicles are as fashionable on the boulevard as the barnyard, IH totally redesigned its little truck for 1971 to become bigger and potentially more powerful. Introduced early in the year, the Scout II estate wagon shared design cues and some components with International’s line of pickup trucks. The larger Scout II was now more of a competitor to Jeep’s Wagoneer and Cherokee rather than the CJ-5.

Most model year changes were minor until 1976, when the Scout II’s line was expanded to offset lost market share due to the demise of International’s Light Line trucks. Although International elected to shut down Scout II production in October 1980, the Scout II is fondly remembered and highly sought after by collectors.

Ownership History

After the first owner passed away, the original owner's son kept this Scout II in his garage as a keepsake. Its current owner, whose first car was a 1984 Bronco II and whose brother owned a 1972 Scout, made it clear how much she loved it, and she asked for the chance to buy the Scout if it ever became available. When that opportunity came in 2018, she purchased it immediately. After enjoying it for six years on California’s mountain roads and on trips to the beach, she says, “I don’t think I am giving it its due diligence. I hope it finds its way to someone with the same affection.”
