Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
With a complete redesign of the de Ville line imminent, General Motors made use of its massive, 130-inch wheelbase platform for a sixth and final model year in 1976, boldly defying the tightening fuel economy regulations of the 1970s. While most other manufacturers were in an era of rapid downsizing, Cadillac fitted the de Ville with an even larger engine – a 500 cu-in V8 borrowed from the Eldorado, rated at 190 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque. The interiors remained characteristically plush, trimmed in Manhattan velour upholstery or optional leather in a wide array of colors. Power steering, power brakes, electric locks, electric windows, and six-way-adjustable electric front seats were all standard conveniences on the de Ville. In 1977, Cadillac finally gave in to the economic pressures of the Malaise era and introduced a downsized de Ville measuring 9.5 inches shorter and weighing 950 pounds lighter – setting the 1976 de Ville apart as the last true full-size luxury coupes and sedans of the era.
