Description

The Jeep CJ-5, introduced in 1955, represents the evolution of the original World War II “jeep” crafted by Willys-Overland. Building on the legacy of earlier models like the CJ-2A, CJ-3A, and CJ-3B, the CJ-5 was inspired by the M-38A1 military Jeep that began production in 1952. When American Motors Corporation (AMC) acquired Kaiser-Jeep in early 1970, the iconic CJ-5 continued to thrive, embodying rugged versatility. A significant upgrade came in 1972, with AMC adding a range of inline-six engines and V8s. The introduction of the Renegade package in 1973 further enhanced the CJ-5's appeal, offering buyers a stylish yet capable off-road vehicle. In 1975, the CJ-7 made its debut, boasting a longer wheelbase and larger doors to cater to the growing demand for more comfortable urban driving. Despite the CJ-7's popularity, the CJ-5's production continued until 1983, cementing its legacy as a beloved classic in the Jeep lineup.
