Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

The 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 arrived at a turning point for both the Mustang and American performance cars. By the early 1970s, tightening emissions regulations, rising insurance costs, and looming fuel concerns were reshaping Detroit. The Mach 1 — introduced in 1969 as a bold performance package — adapted to survive.

Based on the upsized 1971-73 Mustang body, the 1973 Mach 1 emphasized presence as much as power. Its long hood, fastback roofline, bold graphics, and distinctive NACA-style hood made it unmistakable. Inside, a sporty interior with bucket seats and deep-set gauges reinforced its performance roots.

The second owner of this ’73 Mach 1 bought it only months after its original owner purchased it from Glacier Valley Ford in Baraboo, Wisconsin. The second owner is said to have kept the car for more than 50 years until he passed away in 2025, at which time it was acquired by its current owner. The car is finished in Medium Bright Yellow with Mach 1 trim and features the Mach 1 Sports Interior. Power comes from a 302ci V8 engine with a two-barrel carburetor, mated to a three-speed manual transmission.

This 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 is now offered at no reserve with a Marti Report, window sticker, Ford Protecto plate, owner’s manual and documents, and a clean Indiana title in the seller’s name.

Ownership History

The seller of this 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 purchased it in April 2025.

The seller states, “This car came from the second owner, who had the car since it was less than a year old — going way back to 1974. The man passed away, and his neighbor sold me the car on behalf of his widow. This Mach 1 is believed to have all original interior, less than 100,000 original miles, and some (if not most) of its original paint. Also, the drivetrain is believed to be original.

“I have receipts for over $700 worth of work done to make the car drivable: refurbished carburetor installed, new exhaust, fuel system cleaning and restoration, new shocks, and a tune-up. It was a garage show piece and not driven for a long period of time. It’s an amazing time capsule.”

The seller states, "It is a 'near Survivor /Cocoon' sort of a car in that it has been incredibly preserved! The car still has what appears to be Ford's original inspection "WK" ink stamp still on the passenger door jam, along with ink stamps and date codes still visible on many components throughout!"
