Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
“In luxury, few cars offer more than LTD, best-seller in its class,” Ford said in 1972. The LTD Convertible was introduced in 1971, making it Ford’s only full-size convertible at a time when other companies were rolling back their ragtop lines. In 1972, the LTD Convertible continued with minimal changes from the previous year, including a reworked front grille. The standard engine was a 351 cubic-inch V8, with options for more powerful engines up to the 429 cu-in four-barrel “ThunderJet” V8 from the Thunderbird, all able to run on regular gas. Still, even the basic LTD was well-equipped for an early ’70s domestic: power front disc brakes, electric clock, plush seat trim and door panels, chrome pedal trim, wide bright bodyside moldings, standard SelectShift automatic transmission, heater-defroster, and power ventilation. The 1972 model marked the first time Ford Motor Company sold over three million vehicles in a year with 475,292 LTDs produced, including 4,234 Convertibles starting at $4,073.
It was the last year Ford offered a full-sized convertible. Bold, beautiful, and big, this well-preserved, highly original 1972 LTD Convertible truly defines “living large.”
